How to brew coffee correctly:
For this section I have called upon the coffee connoisseur Nick Basson:
Nick goes to Bishops Diocesan College
Nick drinks one coffee on a Friday and another on Saturday
Nick brews his coffee with the Bialetti brewing apparatus his mom bought in Italy (the brand is over 100 years old!)
If you don’t have a Mokka pot you can use a classic press.
Basson's best tips for a sensational brew:
Nick says, "The first step is often overlooked: Selecting the right roast.''
(Nick prefers a medium roast from an artisan or roastery. He made sure to let me know to never buy from Woolworths)
Picking the right roast
Here are his recommendations:

(more commercial than the other so take Vida with a gain of salt. Still a great option is you are on the move)
Now that you've bought a quality roast. Let's learn how to grind the beans.
Grinding the beans:
If you have beans then you need a good grinder (Nick recommends beans because it is fresher). If you have ground coffee then he says that you should get an espresso size grind.
To measure the beans, fill the brew basket to the brim, chuck it in the grinder and pulse till a consistency slightly coarser than the average espresso.
For ground coffee just fill the brew basket to the top.
Spilling the beans:
Here are a few things to keep in mind
When using a Mokka pot, pre-boil the water before adding the grounds. This will result in a richer coffee and no bitter taste. We don’t want the beans to slowly heat because the flavor is going to be wasted.
Tap the grounds lightly
Full the Mokka pot to the valve
Pop it onto the heat on medium to low until the coffee starts to bubble, then immediately turn the heat off and screw the cap back on.
Nick says, “You should never have to put sugar in your coffee.”
And bam! You have a great brew!
How to maximize the effects of coffee (Practical implementation):
Coffee produces adrenaline, dopamine and serotonin. Dopamine helps you to concentrate and is your reward hormone. This is why coffee might improve your focus. Serotonin controls your mood and well-being. All my surfing and mountain biking subscribers already know what adrenaline is. Adrenaline prepares your body for a fight, your pupils enlarge to take in more light, your air passages increase size so you can breath more and tells your immune system to wake up. It’s basically fight or flight mode.
So how to maximize these effects:
Drink your first cup of coffee between 9 am and 11 am
The hormones that your body produces at night will stunt the effect of coffee. Waiting until the cortisol hormone dies down is crucial to gaining the full effect of the coffee.
Get that second cup of coffee in before its too late
The timing of the second cup of coffee is an art. Find out when your crash usually starts (for me it’s about one-two). Your crash is when you lose energy become demotivated, unfocused and lazy. Time that second cup of coffee about 30 minutes before that and pair it with a dirty double thirty. Don't drink your second cup of coffee after three-four pm because it will screw around with your sleep cycle and keep you awake.
Don't drink coffee on the weekends
This will allow your brain to do a quick reset on your adenosine receptors (the receptors to make you feel sleepy). This will 1. Stop you from becoming caffeine-dependent and 2. Allow you to feel the maximum effect of the coffee in the week when you need it most.
Thank you for reading and hopefully, you now have the tools to make a good coffee and unleash that scrumptious beverage's full potential. Feel free to support the blog by sharing and have a great day!

Such good advice to have no coffee on weekends. Wish I’d known that before I became a caffeine addict!
